On September 19, 2024, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will publish a resolution outlining the rules for the use of artificial intelligence (AI), social media, and deepfakes in the 2025 May polls.
\nThe resolution is going to tackle incorrect and deepfake material on social media. Representative Arlene Brosas of the Gabriel party list\u00a0queried the voting authority about possible solutions for red-tagging in the 2025 municipal and national elections.
\nThe Commission will revise its resolution to conform to new advances and defend the public from misleading data. The resolution will be founded on current developments and technological advances, and it will be amended if new ones emerge all through the campaign period.
\nDuring the 2022 elections, the Makabayan bloc had to submit to red-tagging and a false Comelec resolution, which the governing legitimacy later repudiated.<\/p>\n

Experts, including data scientist Dominic “Doc” Ligot, warned that AI and deepfakes would play a bigger role in the 2025 midterm elections.
